Chulu East Peak (6,584m), comparatively a smaller Peak for Climbing lies south east of Chulu West. The Peak offers breathtaking views of the mountains like Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho Peak and Mt. Manaslu. It forms an integral part of Manang Himal combining both Chulu East and Chulu West Peaks, which ultimately combined with Damodar Himal. Chulu East climbing is technically difficult for the new climbers. Hence, the climbers must be familiar with the use of climbing activities like crampons, harness ice axe, tying knots and handling climbing ropes. Major section of the climbing Chulu East Peak is devoted to ropes using and glacial crossings.

To approach to the Base camp of Chulu East Peak, we start by private transport drive to Dumre where the trek begins. The Marsyandi Valley with the diversity of flora and fauna along the trail of this Annapurna Region until reaching the Chulu East Peak is incredible. Firstly, we departure to Besisahar from Katmandu and start trek enroot common Annapurna Circuit trails and reach Chulu East Peak in a week. Along the way we plan a Chulu Peak climb, moderate snow and ice climbing to over 6000m. After Chulu we make our way up to Throng La Pass at over 5000m; then down into the spectacular Muktinath, the another part of the Annapurna Region. The next day we start descent trek to Jomsom to wait for the adventurous 20 minutes flight back to Pokhara. Then we arrange your journey back to Kathmandu for departure to final destination.

So altogether this is probably the most diverse climbing trek in Nepal from cultural and nature aspects as well as the diversity of activities.
The trek follows Marsyangdi River Valley from Basi Sahar to Manang. We will take the trek through Upper Pisang and in village of Ngawal we take the trek North to the Chulu Base Camp (4500m) 6.5km away with 950m of elevation gain along Julu Khola River.
Our standard trek ends in Jomsom from where we fly out to Pokhara cutting short the Annapurna Circuit and missing the Kali Gandaki Valley. We offer the option to continue along the Kali Gandaki Valley to Beni Bazar for those, who have extra 4 days and enough energy. For clients with limited time it is possible to fly out from Manang.

Climbing Routes

The standard climbing route is via Northeast ridge. We will attempt the summit from High Camp (5400m) located just below the Chulu Far East(6059m). High Camp C1 is located 3.7km north from the Base Camp (average slope 22deg; elevation gain 900m).
We will take one day for acclimatization rest at C1 and there will be an opportunity to climb Chulu Far East as a part of acclimatization (6059m; elevation gain 360m; average slope 36deg)
The summit route is 4.5km long. It requires navigation of a glacier approximately 1km wide to reach the bottom of the climbing ridge, which requires glacier travel skills. The steepest part of the climb is the access section to the top of the ridge with maximum slope of 45deg/450m. Once on the ridge the average slope is below 35deg with the length of 1.8km and 520m of elevation gain.
Summit day will be a very long and strenuous having to cover 12km from C1 to the summit and return to the Base Camp with total elevation gain of 1400m and elevation loss of 2300m.

Testimonials

Naya Kanga Peak Climbing 07th March-2011

Naya Khanga Peak climbingI planned to climb Naya Kanga Peak in March and Snowy Horizon helped me a lot - I got a great guide who has done an impressive List of ascents of high mountains. He was a real fighter when it came to struggle against a hell lot of snow - yet we had to give in before reaching the High Camp. Anyway, this hasn't been the fault of anybody involved. I had a good time, felt safe and secure and can recommend Snowy Horizon to anybody who looks for a challenge in Nepal Himalaya. I would like to many thanks Mr. Rishi Bhandari and his company working team.... .Read More
