Everest Expedition (8,848 M)- Spring 2013

The Sagarmatha, ‘forehead of the sky’ in Nepali, is known as Mt. Everest around the world. Mt. Everest with the altitude of 8848m, is the highest peak on the Earth and often is referred to as the roof of the world; it is straddling Nepalese Tibetan boarder with its South face located in Nepal and its North face located in Tibet.

This world’s highest peak was first officially measured in 1856 during the Great Trigonometric Survey of British India government and then known as Peak XV certified with the height of 8840m. With a simple technology and the distance from the mountain, the height was determined with really phenomenal accuracy and only 8m off from current value of 8848m. The peak XV was named Mt Everest after British Surveyor General Sir George Everest. In those days with Nepal and Tibet being closed to the outside world and the indigenous names of the peak XV were not known.
Mt Everest is a climbing pinnacle to everyone from accomplished climber to an inexperienced but wealthy tourist being taken to the summit for a substantial fee by a professional mountain guide with a team of climbing Sherpa guides. The Everest Expedition royalty fee of U$25,000 forms a substantial source of tourist revenue for the government of Nepal, for whom Himalayas are a substantial natural resource due to lack of any substantial mineral resources. There are two commercial routes on Everest, south route via Southeast Ridge from Nepal and via North Ridge from Tibet.

The Chinese royalty via North ridge (North Face) is lower than Nepalese but the climb from Nepal via Khumbu icefall and South Face is extremely spectacular and sheltered from winds up to camp 4 at South Col making climbing much easier and much more pleasant.

Snowy Horizon is proud to offer the world-class service from the Everest Base Camp (EBC). Our service consists of 3 components the Trekking Service, the in-Basecamp service and High Camp Climbing support service.

Our Trekking service covers you from Kathmandu airport, where we will pick you up from your flight, to the Everest Basecamp with Kathmandu hotel package, flight to Lukla, food, accommodation and porter service on the trek.

Our in-Basecamp service will give you access to all our Basecamp services and facilities including 3 meals a day, unlimited hot and cold drinks available in the mess tent 24 hours a day, hot water for drinking and personal hygiene and the access to our communication equipment.

Our High Camp Climbing support service is provided by highly skilled and experiencedSherpa Climbing Guides. Our guides have multiple Everest summits under their belts and undergo continuous after season training and practice their trade working with international climbers on various climbing assignments in Nepal and Tibet.

Everest is a serious undertaking and a climb with serious consequences should things go wrong so, one of the major things we focus on while operating Mt. Everest Expedition is prevention.
