Kaligandaki River Rafting
Kaligandaki is the one of the holy rivers of Nepal. It is named after Kali, the goddess of destruction and it originates in Mustang district. Your adventure is set against the backdrop of the Annapurna range with Dhaulagiri and Annapurna emerging in and out of view. The river carves the deepest gorge in the world between the two 8000m peaks Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. It provides magnificent views of the Himalayas, wonderful waterfalls and the most important for the rafter, most exciting rapids. It is a flat river, flowing in an arid open valley. The beautiful river flows south through areas not often visited by tourists until recently; and almost unknown to western explorers, past the point where the river merges with its tributary the Modi Khola until late fifties, when western European climbers developed interest and started competing for first summits on Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
While rafting this section of Kaligandaki River one experiences continuous scenic views of the mountain ranges, hills and rural settlements. The riverside represents quite rich biodiversity; the area is rewarding for lovers of birds and wildlife. Many species of wildlife such as mongoose, monkey, leopard, among others, can be encountered there. The rafting on the Kaligandaki River is suitable for both, the beginner and the experienced. Such variety is hard to find anywhere within such a short time span. This river will keep you continuously busy on technical rafting for 3 days. After completing this exciting rafting there are few options for well deserved rest, either driving or flying back to Kathmandu or drive to the Chitwan National Park for relaxing jungle safari.
This rafting program begins near Beni Baglung, 62km and two hour’s drive from Pokhara. First day we raft approximately 2 hours and take a lunch break on the river bank. After lunch we continue rafting for two more hours and stop for overnight camp at one of the nature’s Five Star sites with surreal views and cascading waterfalls. We begin our second day with a breakfast at 8am and start our rafting program at 9am with a similar rafting schedule. Third and last day offers nothing less exciting then previous two days but like all good things must come to the end, so we finish our rafting adventure in Mirmi from where we drive back to Pokhara, Kathmandu or Chitwan Nationl Park for the jungle safari.
