Lhasa Kathmandu Mountain Biking Tour
Snowy Horizon Treks and Expedition designed and operates one of biggest cycling trips in the world a Cycling Epic from Lhasa to Kathmandu. For a true maintain bike convert and believer that is the Holy Grail and a cycling pilgrimage through the ‘Roof of the World’ and for many if not most of participants it is a life changing experience.
Our fully-supported mountain bike tour along the ‘Friendship Highway’ starts in Lhasa (3650m), takes us to the Everest Base Camp, the gateway for the Everest North Side Routes, over 5 passes exceeding 4500m with the vistas on 8000m giants Shisa Panga (8012m), Makalu (8463m), Chu Oyu (8201m) and Everest (8848m) and for a big downhill ride to Kathmandu (1400m). We will cover the distance of 1100km mostly on paved surface (80%) and no-technical unpaved surface (20%).
Our program is based on 18 days of cycling, as it is from our experience the ultimate timing for most of fit and healthy cyclists. We provide unique Nepalese crew, experienced in mountaineering, trekking and biking expeditions, ensuring high quality service with Nepali cook, Sherpa camp support and experienced expert Nepalese mountain bike guide, who is also a qualified mechanic. So with us you are in safe hands and you will also enjoy healthy, delicious and plentiful food. We will follow you the entire way from Lhasa to Kathmandu with a Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD, a truck and a highly knowledgeable English speaking Tibetan guide.
We have proven experience in Tibet travel originating from Nepal; we understand Chinese visa and Tibet Permit regulations and special legal agreements between China and Nepal, which regulate the trip from Lhasa to Kathmandu. We will organize it timely for you, so you will not get stuck in Kathmandu without the Permit.
We have experience in cultural tours in Tibet, hence we will help you to understand and immerse yourself in Tibetan Buddhist culture and heritage. You will be expertly guided around most significant and ancient Gompas (monasteries of Lhasa, Gyantse & Shigatse by our English speaking Tibetan guide, who will explain all intricacies of Tibetan Buddhism, customs and culture.

Itinerary Details of Lhasa Kathmandu Mountain Biking Tour
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport and transfer to Hotel
Day 02: Rest and prepare day for assignment & briefing.We provide Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley ((DurbarSquare, Swoyambhunath, Boudhanath & Pashupatinath)
Day 03: Flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa Gonggar Airport (3600m/93km/2hrs form Lhasa) and transfer to the Hotel.
Day 04: Rest, Acclimatization and Sightseeing in Lhasa; we visit the Potala Palace, Norbulinka Palace, Drepung Monastery, Sera monastery, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Bazaar.
Day 05: After 3 days of acclimatization in Lhasa we are ready to start cycling. We spent day 4 fitting and getting used to our bikes and we will do some preliminary biking within Lhasa.
Day 06: This is our first day on the road. We cycle to the base of Khampa La pass (4794m) and we will camp below the pass in Gampa (4000m). [80km/7hrs/400m]
Day 07: We will cross the Khampa La with Yamdrok Tso Lake view and bike along the lake shore to Nakartse (4475m). Guesthouse Accommodation. [72km/7hrs/475m]
Day 08: We cross the Karo La pass (4960m) and camp just below Simi La pass (4330m). [67km/6hrs/475m]
Day 09: We bike today a short distance only to the town of Gyantse (3990m). This will give us some opportunity for active rest and to explore this interesting Tibetan town. Hotel accommodation [35km/5hrs/100m]
Day 10: It will be easy biking day along Nyang Chu river along the bottom of the valley in the direction of the river flow. This will allow us to further explore the town before we leave for Shigatse (3900m). Hotel accommodation [90km/5hrs/-100m]
Day 11: We spent entire day in Shigatse to explore it and aid our acclimatization sequence.
Day 12: We bike today over a small Tra La pass (4050m) to the foot of Tso La pass (4950m) where we camp in Chemo (3950m). [106km/8hrs/150m]
Day 13: We cross Tso La pass (4950m) and bike to the foot of Gyantso La pass (5250m) and camp at Lhatse (4200m). [70km/6hrs/900m]
Day 14: We cross Gyantso La pass (5250m) and bike to Shekar (4050m). Hotel accommodation. [65km/8hrs/1050m]
Day 15: We are entering Everest area. We will bike via Pang La pass(5150m)to Chuzang (4455m), where we camp. [60km/7hrs/600m]
Day 16: It will be a short ride to Rongbuk (4880m), where we camp overnight. We will visit Rongbuk monastery. [24km/4hrs/435m]
Day 17: We bike or walk 8km to the Everest North Base Camp (5040m), explore the ENBC, return back to Rongbuk. [16km/8hrs/200m]
Day 18: We bike to Tingri (4340m). Hotel accommodation. [75km/6hrs/-540m]
Day 19: We bike to the base of La Lung La pass (4910m) and camp at Menkhap (4555m). [55km/4hrs/200m]
Day 20: We bike today to Nyalam (3750m) via La Lung La and Yakri Shong La pass (5050m). [87km/8hrs/500m]
Day 21: From Nyalam we bike a great downhill; we cross the border to Nepal in Zhangmu/Kodari (2300m) and follow the road to Last Resort (900m). Hotel accommodation. [60km/5hrs/-2850m]
Day 22: Last day cycling to Dhulikhel (1450m) and drive to Kathmandu. Hotel accommodation. [75km/6hrs/550m]
Day 23: Full Day sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley and Nepalese cultural program with farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 24: After breakfast we’ll arrange transfer to the airport for your flight or alternatively you can join another tour.
