Paldor peak Climbing (5,896m) - Spring 2012
Paldor Peak (5844m) is located in the range between Ganesh Himal and Langtang. It was first climbed by Bill Tilman, Peter Lloyd, Tenzing Sherpa and Da Namgyal in 1949 by Northeast Ridge. Paldor climb is a total alpine adventure with a pleasant and quick access trail passing through Thamang villages. Paldor has 4 climbable ridges: Northeast, Southeast, West and Southwest. Southeast Ridge, which is the most straightforward route.
The alpine setting of the Paldor peak is amazingly beautiful with 4 glacial amphitheatres and 4 massive ridges rising from the glaciers below presenting an exquisite alpine climb by any standard. Each route is a true alpine classic involving glacier travel, rock scramble, ice and rock mixed sections and stunning finish by the snow ridge, a true dream come true for alpine climber. The view from the summit is panoramic with Ganesh Himal peaks Ganesh I, II and III, Shishapangma, Manaslu and Langtang Liring and many smaller but not less spectacular peaks competing for attention. To the South there is an amazing view stretching over endless lower peaks and Himalayan foothills.
The access trek from Syaphrubesi although quick has perfect acclimatization topography with two passes 2240m and 3750m situated in the right place for the appropriate acclimatization stages. The peak being only 5896m high presents very moderate acclimatization objective and our 6 days acclimatization program during the approach provides a generous margin for any climber. On the exit we take a different trek and in a way more spectacular route to Khahare Bazaar along section of Great Himalaya Trek skirting along the ridge from Pasan Bhanjyang Pass to the village of Borang and then following Ankhu Khola valley, where we experience nature from alpine meadows to subtropical forests and diverse village cultures.
Within our standard Paldor climbing itinerary we offer a climbing service via Southeast ridge from the Base Camp located at 5300m, which makes the climbing route of 700m elevation gain on the summit day with the route length of 2.3km.

Approach to Base Camp
The approach trek starts in Syaphrubesi (1500m) after long but scenic 8hrs drive from Kathmandu. Our first stage is 850m elevation gain to Rongga Bhanjyang Pass (2240m) over 3.5km distance making the average climbing slope of less then 30deg. From the pass we ascent about 100m over 5km.
On second day we reach Yuri Kharka (3280m), which will prepare us to cross the Khurpundanda Pass (3710m) on third trekking day, from where we descent to the camp at Somdang (3270m).
On forth day we reach camp called Jasta Khani (3700m) at the base of Lari Peak and just before the mine site with 430m of elevation gain to allow a comfortable and safe acclimatization.
On fifth day of trekking we reach the Base Camp (4280m) gaining 580m.
After five days of acclimatization we are ready for the climb. We will take 2 days moving to the Advanced Base Camp (5300m) located at the base of snow-ice arête and summit attempt the following day.
Climbing Routes
Southeast Ridge is our climbing route offered within our standard package. From the ABC (C1) we climb 200/55deg arête to the rocky peak of Fang from which we descent on 30deg snow field to the East Paldor glacier at the base of the Southeast Ridge. We climb up and follow the well protected snow and rock ridge for 600m to the summit ridge gaining just over 300m of elevation on the average slope of 55deg. Summit Ridge is somewhat steep but not difficult.
Testimonials
Naya Kanga Peak Climbing 07th March-2011
I planned to climb Naya Kanga Peak in March and Snowy Horizon helped me a lot - I got a great guide who has done an impressive List of ascents of high mountains. He was a real fighter when it came to struggle against a hell lot of snow - yet we had to give in before reaching the High Camp. Anyway, this hasn't been the fault of anybody involved. I had a good time, felt safe and secure and can recommend Snowy Horizon to anybody who looks for a challenge in Nepal Himalaya. I would like to many thanks Mr. Rishi Bhandari and his company working team.... .Read More
