Paragliding in Nepal

Nepal is one of the world’s best paragliding locations. There is always a reliable updraft to take you soaring for hours, there are spectacular mountains with villages and monasteries perched on the hill tops, enchanting deep valleys, river gorges and lakes. The scenery is magic and unforgettable especially viewed from only few hundred meters above. And of course, very high and spectacular mountains like Annapurna are awe inspiring to almost a spiritual level.

There is one particular place in Nepal perfect for Paragliding, Pokhara valley with its beautiful lake Phewa and towering 8000m giants Annapurna (8091m) and Dhaulagiri(8167m) forming the deepest valley in the world located just between them, Kali Gandanaki river valley. Above Pokhara there is Sarangkot Hill (1592m) towering 700m above Lake Phewa, a perfect take-off location for Paragliders seeking right up-draft for a perfect flight. Paragliding in Pokhara has relatively long tradition. It started by a group of British paragliders in 1996 and has grown today to over 300 flight per day.
On perfect day you will see dozens of Paragliders soaring above Sarangkot, Pokhara and Lake Phewa sharing some of best world’s scenery and airspace with Himalayan griffin vultures, eagles, kites floating over villages, monasteries, temples, lakes and jungle, with a fantastic view of the majestic Himalaya. Imagine peacefulness of the flight with the unbelievable scenery; it can be soul touching and inspiring to the point of life changing experience, not to mention the sheer thrill of the flight.

You don’t have to be Paraglider pilot; there are commercial 30-45 minute scenic tandem flights available with services provided by qualified and experienced pilots. You can even have some hands-on practice at controls yourself, under strict supervision naturally. There are paragliding schools in Pokhara and you can enrol on Paragrading pilot training and soon you will be able to soar free above the lake by yourself.
