Putha Himchuli Peak Climbing (7246m)
The Dhaulagiri range is composed of some of the world's most impressive peaks of individual beauty and set in extraordinarily dramatic scenery to the west of Annapurna and South of Ganesh Himal. Proud looking attractive Putha Hinchuli is located at the end of an impressive ridge and is the last of glaciated peaks at the far west reaches of the Dhalaugiri range. The climb is challenging but technically not difficult. It is one of nicest ridge climbs with the snow covered ridge over 2km long.
Putha Hiunchuli (7246m) known also as Dhaulagiri VII the westernmost peak of the Dhaulagiri range was first climbed in 1954 by Jimmy Roberts, a legendary explorer and climber and an accomplished supporter and promoter of trekking in Nepal. He climbed Putha Hinchuli via Northeast Face during his 1954 climbing survey expedition of Dhalaugiri massif.
As a part of our peak climbing package we offer two climbing options from North side with approach from Juphal or from South with approach from Beni Bazaar. Each option has its own charm and attractions and both of them spectacular in its own way.
The trek from Juphal through Lower Dolpa region is via a spectacular and breathtaking Thuli Bheri River canyon with high cliffs towering above with villages perched on its steep flanks.
The trek From Beni Bazaar follows Myagdi River and Dhola Khola and skirts tops of the ridges with spectacular views on Dhalaugiri and Annapurna range.

In the Base Camp: Snowy Horizon Treks & Expedition provides very professional, helpful and friendly service from Kathmandu to the ABC as well as during the climb. Our objective is to provide a good quality, helpful, safe, friendly, stress free and comprehensive service to maximize summit opportunity.
In the Base camp our cooks and helpers will prepare and serve three delicious freshly cooked and plentiful meals a day and will ensure that hot and cold drinks are available 24hrs a day. In the Base Camp we provide spacious expedition quality personal tents for all our clients both with full board or base-camp service only. In the base camp we also provide dining tent, kitchen tent, toilet facilities and portable shower facilities and tent accommodation for our staff.
In the Base Camp we provide access to communication including satellite telephone and internet access, solar panels to charge your batteries and UHF/VHF hand held radios on the mountain to maintain communications between ABC and high camps.
Our Leader and camp manager as well as climbing Sherpas have an extensive experience of multiple Everest climbs. They will ensure cooperation with other companies and Base Camp organization. The Base Camp is a cooperative to ensure contribution from all operators to the task of route fixing and to ensure the safety of climbers from ABC to the summit.
Full Board: For our full board climbers we set up intermediate facility at camp 2 (6750m); this will include personal tents for full board clients, kitchen and dining tents and the toilet facility. We provide a personal climbing Sherpa guide to help the clients to reach the summit. Personal climbing Sherpa will set up camp 1, 2 o three as necessary including food provisions, fuel and oxygen and will guide and assist the client on the summit day. We provide the climbing Sherpa with appropriate radio communication to the climbing route.
Approach to Advance Base camp
From South:Putha Hinchuli South Base Camp Trek starts at Beni Bazaar and follows Myagdi River valley west and then northwest to Dara through numerous villages along the river. This gives us the opportunity to explore diversity of Nepalese cultures. From Dara we follow Dara Khola river valley to the village of Lamsang (2220m), where we cross the range to Dhola Khola valley and the Gurja village (2633m) located at the base of a very beautiful 7193m snow capped Gurja Himal.
From Gurja we climb over 4200m pass to the valley leading to the South Base Camp (4800m) located at the base of Churen Himal (7385m) Southwest shoulder.
From North:Putha Hinchuli North Base Pamp Trek starts from Juphal (2475m) in Lower Dolpa region and follows amazing canyon of Thuli Beri River valley to Kakkotgoan (3240m) for 50km. The scenery created by huge canyon walls is stunning. At Kakkotgoan we leave the trek south along narrow valley of Kag Khola river for 15km trek to the North Base Camp located at 4800m at Hira Tatung glacier feeding from the Putha Hinchuli North Face and West Face of Churen Himal connected together by Puths Hinchuli massive East Shoulder.
Climbing Routes
From South Base Camp: From the Base Camp (4800m) located on the moraine we scramble up the 55deg/350m rock face to Camp 1 (5300m) located on a snow shelf. From Camp 1 we climb 1.1km snow-ice field 35deg/400m to a reasonably flat 20deg section leading to camp 2 (5900m). Camp 3 (6300m) is located on the same long shelf 1.3km away at the base of the East Ridge. The summit 2.8km away from camp 3 is reached via a long 1.4km long East Ridge with 25-30deg inclination and 390m of elevation gain. To get on the ridge from Camp 3 there is elevation gain of 490m over 1.3km with sections 50-55deg. Total distance from the South Base Camp to the Summit is 7.5km with average slope of 35deg.
From North Base Camp: The North route (12km) is longer then South route but it is easier and less steep with average slope of 20deg and only short steep section 55deg/260m between Camp 2 and 3. The Base Camp is located on a flat (less then 10deg) moraine leading to Camp 1 (5300m) 5.3km away. To reach Camp 2 (5900m) from Camp 1 we follow the snowfield at the base of Pota Himal for 3km gaining 400m on average 20deg slope, with some 45deg sections. From Camp 2 we climb a steep mixed snow-ice section 55-60deg/200m leading to 35deg snowfield and Camp 3 (6300m). From Camp 3 we follow the 35deg snowfield to the top of the East Ridge at 7200m, where we join the South Route to the summit on average slope of 30deg for 900m and gaining 300m when reaching the summit.
