Tharpu Chuli with the height of 5663m, also known as Tent Peak is located in the heart of Annapurna Sanctuary. This Peak is among the few snow-clad summits at this height range in Nepal. Tharpu Chuli peak offers an ideal opportunity for Himalayan peak summiteers. Climbing Tharpu Chuli Peak offers an unparalleled view of the entire Annapurna Sanctuary a wonderful circle of hanging glaciers and moraines surrounded higher Annapurnas. Tharpu Chuli Peak Climbing is the best trip for climbing a peak in the Himalayas in the shortest timeframe for Nepal.

Tharpu Chuli Peak is technically easy and practically challenging peak for climbing. The excitement and pleasure of the climb is to trek along the rich and lush Modi Khola with its plummeting cascades and high waterfalls through the colorful Gurung villages. This will be the memorable experience for climbers. The normal route to climb Tharpu Chuli follows the North-West Ridge to the summit however the mountain has been climbed via the South-East Ridge as well as South-West Face. From the summit of Peak Tharpu Chuli, we will have amazing views of about eight summits in excess of 7 to 8 thousand meters such as Machhapuchre, Annapurna I, II, III and IV, Hiunchuli, Baraha Sikhar, Gangapurna, Annapurna, Khansar Kang and Tarke Kang. The trip of this peak climbing starts and ends at Pokhara.

Approach Trek

Tharpu Chuli shares its Base Camp with the Annapurna South Base Camp located at the bottom of South Annapurna Glacier by itself representing beautiful scenery. The 50km trek via Ghorapani and Poon Hill and following the stunning Modi Khola Valley is unforgettable and one of the most scenic treks in Nepal. It takes 7 days and provides just perfect acclimatization sequence. On the way we walk out to Dhampus Phedi only in 5 days.

Climbing Routes

There 3 routes to get to the summit of Tharpu Chuli: North Ridge via West Face, Southeast Ridge and Southwest Ridge.
The obvious approach to the summit is via Southwest ridge with approach route about 47deg for 950m on rock and then a short 360m summit section of 50deg on snow covered ridge.
The Southeast ridge is similar but less steep with inclination less then 40deg. The Base Camp for the climb is Annapurna South Base Camp (4200m) and High Camp can be setup on the snow at 5000m leaving 800m for the summit day.
North Ridge can be reached by getting on it via its West Face, which having to cross 1km on 33deg glacier and climbing 60deg snow covered West Face is more challenging climb. The North Ridge is very narrow presenting a considerable exposure but by any standard it is a very aesthetic climb and exciting route.

Testimonials

Naya Kanga Peak Climbing 07th March-2011

Naya Khanga Peak climbingI planned to climb Naya Kanga Peak in March and Snowy Horizon helped me a lot - I got a great guide who has done an impressive List of ascents of high mountains. He was a real fighter when it came to struggle against a hell lot of snow - yet we had to give in before reaching the High Camp. Anyway, this hasn't been the fault of anybody involved. I had a good time, felt safe and secure and can recommend Snowy Horizon to anybody who looks for a challenge in Nepal Himalaya. I would like to many thanks Mr. Rishi Bhandari and his company working team.... .Read More
