Our Tukuche Peak Climbing Services

In the Base Camp: Snowy Horizon Treks & Expedition provides very professional, helpful and friendly service from Kathmandu to the ABC as well as during the climb. Our objective is to provide a good quality, helpful, safe, friendly, stress free and comprehensive service to maximize summit opportunity.
In the Base camp our cooks and helpers will prepare and serve three delicious freshly cooked and plentiful meals a day and will ensure that hot and cold drinks are available 24hrs a day. In the Base Camp we provide spacious expedition quality personal tents for all our clients both with full board or base-camp service only. In the base camp we also provide dining tent, kitchen tent, toilet facilities and portable shower facilities and tent accommodation for our staff.
In the Base Camp we provide access to communication including satellite telephone and internet access, solar panels to charge your batteries and UHF/VHF hand held radios on the mountain to maintain communications between ABC and high camps.
Our Leader and camp manager as well as climbing Sherpas have an extensive experience of multiple Everest climbs. They will ensure cooperation with other companies and Base Camp organization. The Base Camp is a cooperative to ensure contribution from all operators to the task of route fixing and to ensure the safety of climbers from ABC to the summit.
Full Board: For our full board climbers we set up intermediate facility at camp 2 (6750m); this will include personal tents for full board clients, kitchen and dining tents and the toilet facility. We provide a personal climbing Sherpa guide to help the clients to reach the summit. Personal climbing Sherpa will set up camp 1, 2 o three as necessary including food provisions, fuel and oxygen and will guide and assist the client on the summit day. We provide the climbing Sherpa with appropriate radio communication to the climbing route.

Approach to Base Camp

There are 2 approaches to the Base Camp: standard approach via Ghorapani and Kali Gandaki Valley from the trailhead in in Nayapul, 90mins drive from Pokhara, and alternative approach via Myagdi Khola Valley with the trailhead at Darbang, 4hrs drive from Pokhara. Our climbing package is based on a standard approach however we can arrange the alternative approach on request.
We take 90mins drive to Nayapul and trek to Ghorapani and Poon Hill, from where we catch a magnificent views on Annapurna massif and Dhaulagiri. We down climb to Totopani at the bottom of the Kali Gandaki, the deepest valley in the world, which separates Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs.
We follow Kali Gandaki Valley through Ghasa, Larjung to Maphra through beautiful and charming villages with diverse cultures and ever friendly people. At Maphra we turn west on Dhaulagiri Base Camp trail via Yak Kharka and Dhampus pass (5258m). From Dhampus pass we descend to Hidden Valley, Nepal’s wildest valley, where we setup Base Camp (5100m) for our climb.

Climbing Routes

There are two ways to climb Tukuche: a normal route via Northwest Ridge and alternative route via Southeast Ridge, which is logistically difficult and hence not often done.
The Northwest route is a very interesting and spectacular Ridge route. It is a technical snow and ice route and with Tukuche being almost 7000m high it adds high elevation flavour to its technical qualities.
The Base Camp is located on the top of Hidden Valley down from Dhampus and French passes, roughly half way from each and at the base of the Northwest Ridge. The climb is done with two intermediate camps located at 5600m and 6200m on a very broad and safe snow shelves.
The section from Base Camp to Camp 1 (5600m; elevation gain 500m; distance 2.3km) is a 20deg snow-field. The snow-field continues from Camp 1 to Camp 2 (6200m; elevation gain 600m; distance 1.7km) but average slope increases to 32deg.
From Camp 2 to summit (6920m; elevation gain 780m; Distance 2.6km) there are two steep sections with average slope of 40deg over 450m elevation gain followed by 30deg over 330m elevation gain to the summit.
With almost 7000m peak one has to allow time for acclimatization and weather window for the summit. We allow 11 days in the Base Camp for to execute the climb.
