Types of Rafting in Nepal

Long (Multi-Days) trips:

Sunkosi River: Sunkosi is one, the cheap and popular rafting river of Nepal. The point of starting is close to Kathmandu and there are facilities for driving to both starting and ending points are available. This rafting is described as one of the 'ten best rafting trips in the World', which makes an excellent choice for most of the people and especially for those who are the first river rafters in Nepal.

Karnali River:Karnali is one of the best of our overall trips. The rapids in this river are more challenging than the Sunkosi, add to its remote setting, superb canyons and pristine wilderness; finish with a couple of days at the Bardiya National Park and probably the 'Best of its kind' anywhere in the World.

TamorRiver: Tamor could be described as a mini-Karnali, with a spectacular trek in to the point of starting and lots of white water interest - at the right water level probably more challenging than Sunkosi and Karnali.

Medium length trips:

Kali Gandaki River: If you still want an exciting multi-days white water rafting trip, but have limited time, then you can obviously choose upper Kali Gandaki. After two hours drive to the west toward Pokhara Baglung Highway you will reach the starting point. In two nights and three days you will be taken back to Pokhara from Mirmi via Syangja. It can be explained as a cheaper one but exciting white water adventure.

Trisuli River: Trisuli is one of the cheapest rafting spot but this river is spoilt by the main highway that runs alongside most of it. It is likely to be organized for one or two days trip for easier, assessable and closer for the rafters, which can be arranged to those travelling either Pokhara or Chitwan.

For the medium length rafting upper Kali Gandaki is a much finer river in our opinion and the Arun is an alternative but unfashionable option. For the experienced rafter, this is surpassed by the magnificent whitewater and scenery of the Marsyandi.

Lower Kali Gandaki: If you prefer easier water, then the most accessible option is the lower Kali Gandaki: this offers good scenery, jungle, wildlife and unspoiled beaches.

Short Trips:

Obliviously Trisuli is the popular choice for either white water or easier rafting. However we think that if you have two days time and are looking for an easier trip then top choice must be the Seti River, which is completely away from roads, and with beautiful scenery. If you only have a day then the upper Sunkosi is relatively unspoiled and yet close to Kathmandu. For the experienced crew, the Bhotekosi offers two days of challenging and continuous adrenaline buzz.

Nepal is now the premier destination in the world for multi-days rafting trips. Here're some of the reasons and some sample paragraphs and headings from the main rafting chapter in White Water Nepal.
