Upper Mustang Mountain Biking Tour
This trip is an amazing physical and cultural adventure in to the remote Kingdom of Mustang. Mustang was an independent kingdom with the capital Lo Manthang and its documented history extends to almost 500AD. Its current King Jigme Palbar Bista is a descendent of a dynasty initiated by king Gayalpo Ame Pal in 15th centaury. The kingdom was absorbed within Tibet but due to its isolation has always enjoyed a degree of independence. Today the Kingdom is a part of Nepal. In its history it became important cultural centre of Lamaistic Sakyapa sect still surviving today. The access to the area is restricted and permits are limited so an early booking is essential to ensure permit availability.
Snowy Horizon Treks & Expedition operates Mustng Biking Tour every week in spring and autumn and we offer discounts for organized groups. We operate the cycling trip from Jomsom, where we fly our customers from Pokhara. In Pokhara there are possibilities for optional adventure activities such as paragliding, white water rafting or jungle safari or you can visit Lumbini, a birth place of Lord Buddha. As a standard trip we offer flight between Pokhara and Kathmandu, 2 nights accommodation in Kathmandu one after arrival and another before departure and transfer to and from Kathmandu airport. We run very agile operations and with no hassle and pleasure we can accommodate other modes of transportation and any accommodation requests including accommodation in your preferred hotel.
This ride is simply out of this world, following the Holy Kali Gandaki River up into the breathtaking scenery of Upper Mustang and the edge of Tibetan Plateau. The scenery is extraordinary of desert like Tibetan landscapes with snow and ice capped mountains popping above and being surrounded by all three giants Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna (8081m) and magic Manaslu (8163m).
The terrain is some of the most challenging for mountain biking in Nepal; however the life changing experience of the ancient towns still breathing the unspoiled Tibetan Buddhist traditions is priceless. The rugged route to Lo Mantang will push you and your bike to the limit by the time you reach walls the mystical city on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. The landscapes and sunsets of high altitude desert region, is also a photographer's dream, capturing masterpieces worthy the National Geographic. You will get enchanted and mesmerized with Gompa's, traditional architecture and rustic homes along route. The region is rich in Tibetan Buddhism and the people still practice a simple farming culture, harvesting this arid land and herding their precious livestock such as yaks, and goats.
This is ensured to be an unforgettable journey for the serious Mountain Biker, so let us make it happen for you
